The Working Group on Information Systems and Services (WGISS) of the Committee for Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) focuses on the provision of products, tools and services to realize the full potential of earth observation satellite data. Members of WGISS are representatives from space agencies and major programmes (typically in the field of global environment) affiliated to CEOS. WGISS work covers information systems and services from the ground segment through to the provision of complete datasets for specific applications. WGISS serves both experienced users of Earth observation data in industry and scientific research as well as those investigating applications of earth observation data for the first time. The creation and standardization of metadata to support the discovery of, and access to, data is an important aspect of this work. The co-ordination of member Agency computer networks, making use of the Internet where appropriate, is also a major feature of the activities.

This presentation will give an overview of the main activities and progress of the technology and services within WGISS. It shall cover the internal management of data, the creation of information systems and the delivery of interoperable services.  Especial it shall give an interest example to show the full range of the information processing chain from the initial ingestion of satellite data into archives through to the incorporation of derived information into end-user applications.
