International Social Science Data Archives: Models, Policies and Principles
Chair: Gretchen Gano, Librarian for Public Administration & Government Information, New York University Libraries, US
As the desire to deepen and contextualize analytical models through the integration of science and social science data increases, opportunities for cross community collaboration grow. Established sources of well curated, network-accessible social science data can serve as key partners in data sharing and integration efforts. In this session, members of the professional organization, the International Association for Social Science Information Service and Technology (IASSIST) provide an overview of models, policies, and principles governing a selection of international social science data archives. Presenters will address issues of data curation, access, and preservation concerns in the social science data lifecycle.
IASSIST is an international organization of professionals working with information technology and data services to support research and teaching in the social sciences. Its members work in a variety of settings, including data archives, statistical agencies, research centers, libraries, academic departments, government departments, and non-profit organizations. Its goals include fostering and promoting a network of excellence for data service delivery, advancing infrastructure in the social sciences, and providing opportunities for collegial exchange of sound professional practices.
