Semantic Web Ontology for Research Community

Semantic web ontologies for research communities enable explicitly represented research information to be semantically consolidated, automatically distributed, and further make implicit research-related knowledge to be uncovered by inference procedures. This paper describes the 'Science and Technology Research Area' ontology which is primarily targeted to help actual researchers and project planners/assessors to gather the statistics of research activities and to identify researcher networks or researcher groups. Unlike other research community ontologies, instances in the STRA ontology are assigned universal resource identifiers according to class-dependent URI assignment schemes. For this, the identity resolution method of real world instances is employed.
