The InterPARES Project is a multi-disciplinary international research endeavor
that aims to develop the theoretical and methodological knowledge essential
to the long-term preservation of accurate, reliable and authentic digital entities
regardless of media fragility and technological obsolescence, and, on the basis
of this knowledge, to formulate model policies, strategies and standards capable
of ensuring that preservation. This paper will present the issues InterPARES
is addressing, and the conceptual foundation, methodology and key findings of
the research conducted to date. Its intention is to constitute the framework
for the three following papers on specific studies conducted within InterPARES.
