CODATA General History

1966

Recognizing a world-wide demand for useful, reliable and readily available scientific and technological data, the International Council for Science (ICSU) established the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) to promote throughout the world the evaluation, compilation and dissemination of data for science and technology and to foster international collaboration in this field. CODATA held its first meeting in June 1966.
