Footnotes
(a) This Volume III (1996) is a cumulative work embracing the two earlier volumes by the same coauthors and provides heat capacity and entropy data on 5332 individual entries for 2503 discrete organic commpounds in the liquid and solid phases. Data on the enthalpies of phase transitions determined from calorimetric measurements are also included. Over 2200 articles have been examined, evaluated, and referenced. It collects the pertinent daa from the literature through 1993. This extends the coverage from 1881. It lists also several overlapping compilations. If the researcher cannot find the desiderata for his purposes, he may take a final fling through the Bulletin of Chemical Thermodynamics in search for unpublished data. The authors are to be commended on a major enhancement of the literature on organic thermodynamics.
[(b) The collection of data began in 1976 within the framework of the DECHEMA study and was the reason for the development of the database ELDAR (Electrolyte DAta Regensburg). (Approximately 500 000 measured data of electrolyte solutions from 16 000 publications have been stored in ELDAR.) The book and the database have complementary functions. The data books give a clear arrangement of critically selected recommended data for each property of an electrolyte solution. Indices of the formulas, names and Registry Numbers make orientation easy. All solution properties were calculated from the original measured data with the help of compatible property equations. 1996, 576 pp., ISBN 3-926959-69 X, Price 390 DM. Order from DECHEMA, Chemische Tecnik und Biotechnologi e.V., Postfach 15 01 04, D-60061 Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
(c) A limited number of dielectric data exist. As far as original measured data were available, these are quoted and reanalyzed with the help of modern numerical methods to fit the relaxation model which yields the "best" parameter set for the description of the permittivity spectra with a minimum of adjustable parameters. Also included are data sets from publications where only a relaxation model and its parameters are given, provided a reliable reconstruction of the total dielectric response was possible over the investigated frequency range. They felt that given the present state of knowledge this action would provide information on solutions which otherwise would be lost. 1994, 375 pp, ISBN 3-926959-62-2, price 400 DM. Order from DECHEMA (Cf. #b )
(d) Nuclear Energy Agency Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development. Report NEAT/NSC/DOC (96)27. (Sept. 1996). Based on questionnaires sent to database custodians and end users. Three broad groups of thermodynamic databases were noted by an 11-member task force:
More than 12 (a) and (c) type databases were noted, more than 7 (b) types, and about 10 databases within computer codes. Tables of radiation chemistry and geochemical computer programs available from OECD/NEA are listed also.
This 48-page document can be accessed on the Internet . Alternatively, a printed copy can be obtained free of charge from the e-mail address: <neapub@nea.fr>.
(e) The Handbook is a synthetic yearly publication designed to help scientists interested in a new field of research. It can also be used as a help to on-line retrieval. Volume 1 includes Standard Data, i.e., those related to atoms and small molecules, following the general policy of GAPHYOR. Volume 2 covers Special Data related to some fields extending the general scope of GAPHYOR, e.g., multicharged ions, iso-electronic series, clusters, and gas-surface interactions. Volume 1 (153 pages for 15 015 data) : 500 FF, plus taxes. Volume 2 (187 pages for 20 677 data): 500 FF, plus taxes. A new version of the database query program (Version 2.1.1) is available on the WWW Server. The last version of the database query program, GAPHYR 3.0, is available. This new version allows one to make queries in the database using 2 reactants. This version requires a larger window, so the consultation may be more or less easy depending on the equipment, system and browser one is using. That is why the old version (GAPHYOR 2.2) will stay available for a while. More information: Denis Humbert, Centre de Donées GAPHYOR Laboratoire de Physique des Gaz et des Plasmas, Paris.
